G80 M3 Finished with GYEON PPF and GYEON Ceramic Coatings
Though divisive at first, the G80 M3 has become fairly universally loved among car enthusiasts. This M3, though, stands tall above the rest. Finished in Oxford Green Metallic over a Tartufo interior, this is proper enthusiast spec, even featuring a manual transmission.
With a spec as nice as this, it was important to the owner to keep it protected, so we installed our Driver’s Package GYEON PPF and our Level 2 GYEON Ceramic Coating System.
Step 1: Decontamination Wash
As a premium paint protection studio, one of the things that sets us apart is our intensive prep and decontamination process. This starts with a thorough maintenance wash that typically takes about two hours.
With every car, we’ll always start by cleaning the wheels since they’re typically the dirtiest part of the car. For this task, we’ll use
GYEON Q2M Iron WheelCleaner,
Q2M Tire Cleaner, and an array of specialized brushes. To ensure that we’re not spreading brake dust, dirt and grime over the rest of the car, we have a dedicated wash bucket that only gets used for wheels.
Once we’ve deep-cleaned all four wheels, we can get started with our prepwork for this stunning Oxford Green Metallic Paint. To remove much of the surface-level physical contamination such as dirt and grime, we’ll soak the entire car with
GYEON Q2M Foam and let it rest on the paint for 5-10 minutes to loosen any grime before rinsing the foam off.
Now that we can safely do a contact wash, we’ll fill up both of our wash buckets. Our ‘wash’ bucket will be filled with water and a healthy amount of Q2M Bathe, while our ‘rinse’ bucket will be filled with just water. Moving top-to-bottom and panel-by-panel, we’ll begin washing the entire car, making sure that we’re carefully rinsing our wash mitt in between panels to avoid introducing any scratches or swirls to this paint.
After these initial steps, the car is now
clean but not
decontaminated. For the decontamination, we’ll first spray the entire car with
GYEON Q2M Iron, which will chemically break down contaminants. We’ll typically let this product rest on the car for a bit to maximize its effectiveness. To remove any remaining, embedded contaminants, we’ll clay bar the entire car using
Q2M Clay Lube.
Step 2: GYEON Paint Protection Film
The owner of this stunning G80 M3 wanted a good balance between protection coverage and affordability, so the obvious choice for paint protection film was our Driver’s Package. This package protects your paint in all of the highest impact areas, protecting your vehicle’s most vulnerable panels.
For maximum precision and coverage, we always start PPF installations at the computer, where we’ll use the GYEON Cut software and a large printer known as a plotter to pre-cut PPF patterns designed and printed specifically for your vehicle. Once we've printed custom patterns for each panel, our factory-trained installers can shift their focus over to the vehicle.
Using GYEON Slip, our installer will saturate the entire panel, allowing the film to temporarily ‘float’ over the paint and not immediately adhere to the vehicle. The pre-printed piece of film will then be laid over the slip solution. Making sure they have perfect conformity around sensors, corners and edges, our installers will set anchor points to ensure the film does not move. Once the film is set around corners or details, our installers will use a squeegee to push the slip solution out from underneath the film, allowing the adhesive to stick to the paint and leaving behind an invisible layer of protection.
After we finish installing on each panel included in our Driver’s package, we’ll let the car sit overnight to allow any moisture to evaporate and reveal any touch ups or unwrapped edges. To round out the paint protection film install, we’ll touch up and wrap any final touches. After all, the best kind of protection is the type that you can’t see.
Step 2: GYEON Ceramic Coating
For maximum ease of cleaning, hydrophobicity and protection from UV exposure, this client opted for our Level 2 GYEON Ceramic Coating System. This ceramic coating system includes a dedicated coating for wheel faces and windshield, as well as a double layer of coating on all painted, gloss black, or carbon fiber exterior surfaces.
In order to achieve the best possible longevity and durability as well as the highest levels of gloss, it's important that we do a paint correction before installing a coating. For this task, we’ll use a Rupes rotary polisher and
GYEON Polish for an effective gloss enhancement capable of removing up to 75% of surface defects.
Once any exposed paint is corrected, we’ll wipe down the entire vehicle in GYEON Q2M Prep to remove any remaining grease, lubricants or polish dust from the surface of the car.
Now, to begin installing the ceramic coating, our professional detailer will saturate a specialized applicator with a GYEON Ceramic Coating. Using the applicator, he’ll spread the coating onto the car one panel at a time. He’ll also be applying the coating in a cross hatch pattern to avoid missing any areas. Once the coating has flashed on the panel, we’ll wipe it off using both a long-fiber and short-fiber towel, ensuring that no high spots are left behind. We’ll follow this process until every panel is coated, and then repeat the entire process for a second layer of coating.
With PPF and Ceramic Coating completely finished, we always do a quick interior detail and apply a tire dressing before this stunning Oxford Green Metallic G80 M3 is ready for delivery.
