Below, you’ll find best aftercare practices, tips and tricks, product recommendations and advice on maintaining your coating’s warranty.
Part One: Best General Practices
- Don’t wash your car or use harsh chemicals within 14 days of PPF/Coating install
- Do not use an automatic car wash, if you do, use a touchless wash
- Remove contaminants like bugs, bird droppings, or road chemicals right away
- Always wash and dry your car when its cool or in the shade
- Wash your car minimum every month, preferably every 2 weeks
- Get a full maintenance wash with DAS every 2 years
- Don’t overuse protection products such as Q2M WetCoat
- Wash microfiber towels ONLY with other microfiber towels
- Wash in straight lines not circles to minimize scratching
- Lightly spray carpets with interior detailer before vacuuming for better results
Part two: How to Maintain Your PPF or Ceramic Coating
Step 1: Wheels
It's important to always begin your wash process with wheels and tires since they are typically the dirtiest part of your vehicle. The best product for cleaning your wheels is GYEON Q2M Iron WheelCleaner. It’s safe on all wheels and finishes, but should be avoided on cars with carbon ceramic brakes.
Working one wheel at a time, liberally spray Iron WheelCleaner on the entire wheel. After letting it sit for 1-2 minutes, agitate with a soft wheel brush. Rinse the wheel thoroughly before sprayingQ2M Tire Cleaner on the tire and agitating the tire with a stiff bristle brush. Rinse and repeat for all four wheels.

Step 2: Pre-Wash/Rinse
Before touching the vehicle, you should always pre-wash or rinse your vehicle. If you have a foam cannon, generously soak the vehicle in GYEON Q2M Foam, let it rest for a few minutes, then rinse it off. If you do not have a foam cannon, just use water and thoroughly rinse as much dirt and grime off the vehicle as you can.

Step 3: Contact Wash
When washing your car, you should ALWAYS use the two-bucket method to avoid introducing scratches and swirls to your paint. Your first bucket will be filled with only water and you’ll use it to rinse your wash mitt between each panel. Your second bucket will have 10-15 pumps of GYEON Q2M Bathe in addition to the water and will be used to re-saturate your wash mitt with shampoo after rinsing it in the first bucket. If you have grit guards, be sure to place those in your buckets before starting.
Here at the studio, we use aGYEON Q2M Smoothie for our wash mitt, so we highly recommend it for your at-home setup. Moving from the top of the car to the bottom, begin washing your car one panel at a time, making sure that you’re rinsing your wash mitt in the rinse bucket between each panel. It’s also important to note that you should only move the wash mitt in straight lines, front-to-back, to reduce the risk of swirling your paint.

Step 4: Decontamination
If you want to go the extra mile on your wash and chemically decontaminate your vehicle’s paint, after you finish washing and have rinsed all of the shampoo off, spray the entire vehicle in Q2M Iron to remove ferrous deposits or other contamination. Make sure you are rinsing very heavily after this product and do not let it dry on your paint as it can stain paint or PPF if used improperly.

Step 5: Ceramic Coating Topper
To keep your coating in the best shape possible, it's important that you use a ceramic coating topper, specifically GYEON Q2M WetCoat. This product gives your vehicle an instant boost in hydrophobicity, water beading, and gloss. Moving one panel at a time, lightly spray Q2M WetCoat on the paint before immediately and thoroughly rinsing it off. Repeat this process for each panel, and you will see the beading boost immediately.
Alternatively, you can wait until after you dry the vehicle and useQ2M Ceramic Detailer instead. Shake the bottle of Ceramic Detailer before praying it onto a damp, not wet, microfiber towel, specifically a
GYEON Q2M Bald Wipe. Spread the product over a panel before wiping it off with a dry microfiber. Repeat this process for each panel until the vehicle is completed.

Step 6: Drying
To dry your vehicle, you have two main options. First, you can use a Gyeon Silk Dryer. This is an advanced drying towel capable of drying your entire vehicle. Without applying pressure, pull the towel across the paint and let the Silk Dryer do the work, picking up any water along the way.
The second, and safer, option is aBLO Car Dryer. Since this method only uses air to dry your paint, there’s no risk of introducing scratches or damage to your paint.

Every product in this guide is available for purchase in our lobby. Additionally, these are all the same products we use in the studio, giving you the peace of mind that you are only using the best quality product on your car.
part three: Troubleshooting
- I have tar or tree sap on my car.
- Liberally spray Q2M Tar on the contaminated area, making sure the area is already wet.
- Wipe area in straight motions with light pressure using a Q2M Bald Wipe or Polish Wipe.
- Rinse extremely heavily to remove all remaining product.
- The towel you used should only be used for the same purpose moving forward, since Tar is an incredibly aggressive product.
- My car doesn’t bead anymore, do I need a new coating?
- No, you likely don’t need a new coating.
- Hydrophobic properties of coating diminish over time due to contamination.
- Can be fixed one of two ways:
- Bring your car to DAS for a full maintenance wash.
- Do a maintenance wash on your own and use a product like WetCoat.
- Why do I have waterspots and how to fix them?
- Waterspots are caused by mineral deposits in tap water or rain water.
- On a coated car, the coating itself should block those deposits from curing on your paint long enough to use Q2M WaterSpot to remove them.
- Sometimes even just a contact wash is enough to remove them on a coated car.
