Porsche 911 4S Protected with PPF and Ceramic Coatings
If you’re familiar with the Porsche community, then you have probably seen your fair share of highly optioned cars. With over 10 years in business, we’ve seen countless 911’s through our shop, yet this one ranks near the top when it comes to beautiful specs.
This 911 Carrera 4S, finished in Vanadium Grey Metallic, rolled through our studio for Full-Front GYEON Paint Protection Film and our Level 2 Ceramic Coating System.
Step 1: Decontamination Wash
Every car that rolls through our studio will start its journey in our indoor wash bay. Since prepwork typically has a significant impact on the quality of the PPF and Ceramic Coating installations later on, we always take our time when performing a decontamination wash.
To get started on this wash, we’ll start by thoroughly cleaning these stunning silver wheels. Using
GYEON Q2M Iron WheelCleaner,
Q2M Tire Cleaner and a variety of specialized brushes, we’ll clean every part of these wheels including the lug nut area, barrels and the tight areas between spokes.
Once all four wheels are perfectly clean, we can shift our focus to cleaning and decontaminating the paint. First, before we touch the paint, we’ll spray the entire car with
GYEON Q2M Foam using a foam cannon. This step is
extremely important as it removes much of the large surface contaminants, saving time and substantially reducing surface scratching and marring once we move onto the contact wash.
Now, with the foam (and surface contaminants) removed, we’ll get our two-bucket system set up so that we are not introducing any new scratching or swirling to the paint. Our ‘Rinse’ bucket will only be filled with water and will be used to rinse out our wash mitts after every panel. Our ‘Wash’ bucket will include a healthy dose of GYEON Q2M Bathe, which we’ll use to re-saturate the wash mitt after it has been rinsed.
To wash the vehicle, we’ll work top-down, always moving the wash mitt in straight lines and never in a circular motion. Between each panel, we’re always careful to rinse the wash mitt that we’re using to avoid spreading dirt and grime across panels and ultimately, keep your paint safer throughout the duration of the wash.
Now that we’ve completed a full contact wash, we can move onto decontaminating the paint in preparation for its protection. For this task, we’ll use
GYEON Q2M Iron for a chemical decontaminant. After saturating the paint with this product, we’ll let it rest on the surface of the vehicle to allow it to chemically break down any contaminants before rinsing it off.
For physical decontamination, we’ll use
GYEON Q2M Clay Lube and a clay bar. This is an essential step as it removes any embedded contaminants that may interfere with a proper PPF install later on.
Finally, to round out this wash, we’ll touchlessly dry the entire vehicle with a
BLO Car Dryer to avoid introducing any lint or dust to this freshly cleaned paint.

Step 2: GYEON Paint Protection Film
This client wanted robust yet cost effective protection for their 911, so they chose our
Full-Front Paint Protection Film Package as well as a few additional pieces to cover vulnerable areas.
Our Full-Front package covers the
entire front end of your vehicle (up to the doors) with Paint Protection Film. The front end of your vehicle receives about 80% of the damage your car will see over its lifetime. Over time, your front bumper, good and fenders get battered with rock chips, bugs and ice, so it’s exceptionally important to shield those areas with the robust protection of PPF.
Before we even touch the paint, we’ll start on the computer so that we can print precise PPF patterns designed specifically for this 911. Using the GYEON Cut software, we’re able to design patterns that are more precise, have better conformity and less defects than you could get with a bulk install.
Once the patterns for each panel are printed, our factory-trained installers can begin applying PPF to the vehicle. Starting with the hood, we’ll spray the entire panel with GYEON Slip to lubricate the film before adhesion. After laying the film on the panel, our installers will set anchor points and ensure conformity with any sensors, cameras or body lines. With the film anchored, we’ll use a squeegee to push the remaining slip solution out from underneath the film and allowing the film to adhere to the paint.
Using the same method, we’ll cover every panel included in the Full-Front Package before carefully wrapping every edge and addressing any immediate touch-ups. After this, we’ll let the vehicle sit overnight to let all moisture evaporate and reveal any additional touch-ups. We’ll address any final inconsistencies and finish all detail work before the car lands under our light booth for its Ceramic Coating.
STep 3: GYEON Ceramic Coating
To compound the protection of PPF and to add extreme hydrophobicity to this 911, the owner chose our Level 2 Ceramic Coating System. This comprehensive ceramic coating system includes two layers of professional-grade coating on all painted, gloss black or carbon fiber exterior surfaces. It also includes specialized coatings crafted specifically for wheels and windshield. Combined, all of these coatings provide a complete system for protecting your car.
Before we can start coating, however, it's important that we do a full paint correction on any exposed paint that isn’t covered with PPF. Using a rotary polisher and
GYEON Q2M Polish, we'll carefully work our way around the car, removing up to 80% of surface defects as we go and creating a perfectly smooth surface for the ceramic coating to bond to.
Once we’ve wrapped up the paint correction, we still need to prep the surface of the vehicle for a ceramic coating. For this task, we will wipe the entire car down with
GYEON Q2M Prep, which will remove any remaining waterspots, lubricants or grease that may interfere with the coating curing process.
For the ceramic coating installation, we’ll start by liberally pouring the coating onto a specialized applicator. From these, we can apply the coating to the car, working in a cross-hatch pattern and only doing one panel at a time. To remove the excess coating, we first use a short-fiber microfiber to remove the bulk of the leftover coating, before re-wiping it with a long fiber towel (which is able to penetrate deeper into the paint) to ensure we’re not leaving any high spots behind.
We’ll work our way around the same method until the whole car is coated with a base layer of ceramic coating. Then, we’ll go ahead and coat the entire car with a top coat for maximum protection and durability. WIth this combination, the client can expect 5+ years of ceramic protection on their 911.
To wrap up this exciting project, we will do an interior detail, apply GYEON Q2M Tire and this 911 is ready for delivery.
