GET A FREE ESTIMATEAs the long awaited successor to the legendary 720S, the McLaren 750S has been improved in almost every way over its successor. While it may look similar, underneath its spacecraft-reminiscent body, it is lighter, more powerful and more engaging than any previous McLaren supercar.
The owner of this car wanted complete protection for his new 750S, so we installed Full-Body Paint Protection Film and our Level 2 Ceramic Coating System.
Step 1: Decontamination Wash
As we do with every project here at Denver Auto Shield, we’ll start this project with a thorough decontamination wash to get the car perfectly clean and prepared for its other services.
Before we do any work on the paint, we’ll focus on the wheels. Since this 750S came equipped with carbon ceramic brakes, we won’t use products using any iron decontamination as it risks damaging the brake surface. Instead, we will use a gentle, acid-free wheel cleaner. Once any dirt, grime and brake dust has been removed, we’ll rinse the wheels off and move onto our pre-wash step.
Our typical pre-wash consists of a generous application of
Gyeon Q2M Foam over the entire vehicle. This will remove the majority of large surface contaminants, enabling us to do a contact wash with significantly lower risk of scratching or swirling.
We always utilize the two-bucket method when we wash cars. This means that we have a dedicated bucket for our wash soap, and a dedicated bucket for rinsing our wash mitt. As an extremely common practice in detailing, this method allows us to clean all of the painted surfaces on the vehicle while reducing the risk of adding additional scratches.
Once we complete the contact wash, we’ll move onto both physical and chemical decontamination. First, we’ll spray the entire car in
Gyeon Q2M Iron, being careful to avoid getting any of this product on the wheels or brakes. After we rinse that off, we’ll clay bar the vehicle to remove any embedded contaminants.
For the final step of our wash, we’ll touchlessly dry this 750S with a
BLO Car Dryer and it can move into the PPF bay to begin its paint protection.
Step 2: Paint Protection Film
The owner of this McLaren 750S opted for our Full-Body Paint Protection Film Package which includes 8 mil thick clear bra on all exterior painted, carbon fiber or gloss black surfaces. PPF is an excellent solution for protecting your vehicle as it shields your paint from rock chips, scratches, UV damage and other minor impacts.
Before we begin installing, we use a plotter and a specialized software to design and print clear bra patterns specifically for this vehicle. This prevents stretching and distortion while allowing perfect conformity around parking sensors and cameras. While it’s important that we pre-print film for any vehicle, on a car as intricate and complicated as this 750S, it is absolutely crucial that we custom design patterns for each panel.
When we have finished printing paint protection film for the entire vehicle, we can begin the installation process. Before laying the film on the car, our installers will generously spray a slip solution onto the panel. This allows them to have some lubrication between the paint and the film and enables them to move the PPF around on the surface of the vehicle to align it with edges or other details.
Once the panel is saturated in slip solution, our installers will lay the film onto the panel and set their anchor points so that the clear bra does not move around while they are installing. To adhere the PPF to the paint, we’ll use a squeegee to push the slip solution out from underneath the film, allowing the adhesive in the PPF to stick to the paint.
Using the same method, we’ll install paint protection film on every panel on this 750S. Once we’ve completed the vehicle, we’ll let it sit overnight to allow any moisture to evaporate and reveal any touch-ups or unwrapped edges. After trimming any undesirable defects, we’ll move the car to our light booth for its final service.
Step 3: Ceramic Coating
Similar to this client’s choice for paint protection film, they wanted maximum protection for their 750S, so they chose our Level 2 Ceramic Coating System. This package is our most comprehensive coating package, including two layers of professional-grade ceramic coating on all painted surfaces (in this case everything covered with PPF) and dedicated coatings for the wheels and windshield respectively.
Since we have covered every painted surface with clear bra, there’s no need to do a paint correction which means that we can go straight into the prep work for a ceramic coating. For us, this step typically consists of
Gyeon Q2M Prep and
Q2M WaterSpot. These two products are extremely effective at removing and remaining lubricants, grease or remaining contaminants.
To begin installing the ceramic coating, our professional installers will generously pour the ceramic coating onto a specialized applicator. Once the applicator is fairly saturated, we’ll start spreading the coating onto the panel using a cross hatch pattern and being careful to not miss any paint with the coating. Then, using both a long-fiber and short-fiber towel, we’ll wipe away any excess coating and leave behind an invisible layer of protection.
Using the same method, we’ll install the ceramic coating on the entire vehicle, including the wheel faces and windshield.
Once every surface is coated, we’ll wipe down and vacuum the interior and apply a tire dressing before giving this client a call to let them know their 750S is ready for delivery!
