Paying homage to the iconic 330 P4 racecars from the late 1960s, this 1 of 599 Ferrari Daytona SP3 is among the fastest and most exclusive modern Ferraris. I think that we can all agree that it’s not only a visually stunning vehicle, but it also boasts impressive performance alongside its otherworldly aesthetic.

We had the absolute pleasure of finishing this Daytona SP3 with the protection it deserves: our Full-Body Paint Protection Film Package and our Level 2 Ceramic Coating System.

Step 1: Decontamination Wash

In order to achieve the best possible PPF and ceramic coating installs, it's highly important that we start this SP3 project off with a gentle yet thorough decontamination wash. With the intricacies in the body work on this vehicle, we will take our time to carefully clean each and every surface.

In order to reduce the risk of scratching or swirling, we’ll start the wash process with an effective pre-wash consisting of Gyeon Q2M Iron and Q2M Foam. These two products quickly remove both chemical contaminants and larger, surface level dirt and grime respectively. With most of the surface contaminants removed, we can safely wash the paint without worry.

Before we touch the paint, however, we’ll get the wheels clean using a gentle yet effective wheel cleaner and a variety of specialized brushes. Unlike most vehicles that come through the studio, we won’t be using an Iron decontaminant on the wheels because of the carbon ceramic brakes equipped on this SP3 Daytona.

Here at Denver Auto Shield, we exclusively use the three-bucket method for washing vehicles. We have one bucket for wheels, and two additional buckets, one for washing and one for rinsing our wash mitts. This is a fairly common practice among detailers because it greatly reduces the risk of introducing scratches or swirls on the paint.

For our wash soap, we use Gyeon Q2M Bathe and for our wash mitt we always use a Gyeon Q2M Smoothie EVO. Working from the top down, we’ll carefully wash every panel, making sure that we are rinsing our mitt often in the rinse bucket.

Once the paint is clean, we’ll use Gyeon Q2M Clay Lube and a clay bar to remove any remaining, embedded contaminants. To wrap up our decontamination wash, we’ll dry the whole car using a touchless BLO Car Dryer before this SP3 will move into our PPF installation area.

Step 2: paint PRotection Film

Due to exclusivity and rarity of this Ferrari, the natural choice for Paint Protection Film is our Full-Body Package. With this package, we will cover every exterior painted, carbon fiber and plastic exterior surface with durable PPF. Paint Protection Film provides long-term, robust protection from hazards such as rock chips or light scratching, ensuring that this special Ferrari will stay protected for at least 10 years.

Before we start putting film on the vehicle, we’ll start at the computer. Using a specialized computer program and a large printer, commonly known as a plotter, we will design and print PPF patterns specifically designed for this SP3. By pre-printing PPF patterns, we can ensure that every panel will have a perfect fit and finish with no exposed paint. No stretching. No blades. No distortion.

To get started with the clear bra installation, our installers will spray a slip solution onto the first panel. Using their hands, they will feel and inspect the panel, looking for any debris or dust that could interfere with the installation. Now that they're confident that nothing is on the panel, they will lay the film onto the panel. In order to secure the film and prevent it from moving, they’ll use a squeegee to set anchor points. Once everything is aligned, they’ll use the squeegee to push the slip solution out from underneath the film, allowing the PPF to adhere to the paint.

Using the same method, we’ll cover every exterior surface on this Ferrari. Once the installers finish, we’ll let the vehicle sit overnight to allow any moisture to evaporate. In the morning, our installers will look over the now dry car for any unwrapped edges, touch-ups, or moisture pockets that need to be touched up.

Step 3: Ceramic Coating

In order to give this SP3 Daytona maximum protection from whatever the road throws at it, this client opted for our Level 2 Ceramic Coating System. This is our most comprehensive coating system, giving this Ferrari extended ceramic coating coverage and durability. For a vehicle like this, a ceramic coating is a no-brainer due to the UV and chemical protection as well as the hydrophobicity that coatings offer.

Because this vehicle now has Full-Body PPF, there’s no need to do a paint correction, meaning that we can just go straight into our coating prep. For this, we use two products: Gyeon Q2M Prep and Q2M Waterspot. These two products are extremely effective at removing water spots, oils and lubricants from the paint, leaving a perfect surface for the coating to be applied.

Once our detailers are finished preparing the car, they can begin to install the ceramic coating. We use specialized applicators to install ceramic coatings, so our detailers will first pour the coating onto the applicator and spread it onto the panel in a crosshatch pattern, being careful to not leave any paint un-coated. We always use two microfiber towels to remove any excess coating, making sure to not leave any high spots.

Our detailers will use this method to ceramic coat the entire vehicle, including the windshield and wheels.

Now that we have finished installing both Paint Protection Film and Ceramic Coating, this stunning Ferrari SP3 Daytona is ready for delivery. It was an absolute pleasure working on this vehicle and we are extremely grateful for this client for trusting us with his exceedingly exclusive vehicle.
